Scrub

Habitat

Description

Mixed Scrub is mainly a mixture of spiky shrubs such as Common Hawthorn, Blackthorn and Gorse with ivy and Bramble being also common. This type of habitat can be a valuable one for wildlife. As it can give shelter for many birds to nest, avoid predators and feed on berries. Many of these are farmland ones such as yellow Hammer, Corn Bunting, Linnet, Tree Sparrow and Song Thrush.

Mixed Scrub is a temporary habitat and is normally in a transition from one habitat to another such as grassland to woodland or Heathland. This habitat could be present on waste ground , abandoned farmland and grassland where grazing has been relaxed.
